Why is my PC so slow?

After a year of extenisve use, many people starts to ask this very question, why is my PC so slow?  There are two answers to this; one is that you haven’t done some simple maintenance for a while or your PC isn’t future proof.

But, don’t worry, with some simple tips, your PC should feel as fast as it came out from the factory !

Let’s start with some simple maintenance….

1) Check for viruses

The most simple yet time taking task is to check if your PC has any viruses. In windows 8, this is simple. Just search Windows Defender and your very own anti virus suite should appear. From there, you are able to search for any lethal viruses and quarantine them. This is a very affective way of getting rid of viruses which may slow down the PC. For other windows OS like windows 7, you will need to install your own Virus protection

2) Delete files not in use

There are so many things in your PC that you have probably forgotten. File management is hard but this can make it easier to help you speed up your device. Word or any small picture files don’t slow your PC down, but games like Sim City do. If you aren’t going to play these types of games for a very long time, delete them. It takes seconds and 30 minutes waiting,  in the grand scheme of things , it doesn’t hurt to wait. To do this, open the control panel –> uninstall a program and choose any software you would like to delete

3) Reset your PC to when it came out from the factory

This is usually a simple task. This process will definitely speed up the system. (WARNING !!! Please back up files which you would like to keep. If you want to keep your games, it is better to unistall it and install it afterwards) There are two ways to to this, one way is to use the tools Microsoft provides. In windows 8, this is easy. You go to the PC settings on the app interface and go to reset your PC. You might be asked to insert a disk so it can get missing files. For windows 7 and below, this is a little more complicated which is why i recommend doing the second option. Another option is to completely clean the OS away from the system by overriding it. This will need a bootable USB or the windows CD. From there, you will need to get access to the BIOS and change the order of boot. If you have a bootable USB, move the boot order so the usb is first. If you are using a CD, make the CD first to be booted. From there, read the instructions and choose the drive you would like your windows OS to save in.
